Michael Barber

After more than 35 years working as a photojournalist for local newspapers, the Associated Press and as a wedding photojournalist in Columbus, Ohio, Michael Barber shifted his skill set to church communications. As a result, Michael left the midwest to work for a church in Piedmont, California where his interest in filmmaking facilitated multiple short films in support of church mission projects and a variety of music videos.

His travels have taken him to Malawi, Africa, Guatemala and Tijuana, Mexico. His music videos are a collaboration with good friend and co-worker, Dr. Stephen Main. Non-profit work includes Harbor House (Oakland), Las Casas (Oakland) and World Neighbors.

Michael’s style of work brings feeling, emotion and understanding to his stories – allowing the viewer to connect with the subjects, causes and missions he films. He works quietly and unobtrusively, a trait he gained by covering thousands of feature and news stories throughout his career.

Michael resides in Benicia, California working as Director of Communications for Piedmont Community Church. He lives with his wife and Italian Greyhound, and spends a fair amount of time wrenching on classic cars.
